Catching the Boating Bug

Anyone who knows me knows I am a bird hunter. As I write this blog, I’ve got a discontent Irish setter sitting beside me staring out the window towards the 2016 quail season. Aside from a late season snow goose hunt, the guns have all been locked away.

While I generally favor lead shells to lead sinkers, recently I’ve been bit with the bass bug, more specifically, the crappie bite. Maybe it’s because March marks that brief time between hunting and fishing seasons when outdoorsmen sit at nervous idle, but right now wetting a line on a hot July day seems like heaven on water.

Along with watching a bobber drop, I’ve been daydreaming about something else – buying a boat. That’s right, I’ve had enough of duking it out for the best spot on the bank, and I’m leaving the safety of the harbor for deeper waters and bigger fish.

Being a boating novice, I didn’t know where to start. Thankfully, CFM’s members are fortunate to have diverse Business Alliance supporters at their beckon call to answer their outdoor questions. I turned to Roger Bills at G3 Boats for boating advice.

The Lebanon-based boating manufacturer is one of CFM’s steadfast B.A. supporters. Since overhauling the Business Alliance program in 2014, G3 Boats immediately stepped up to become a Business Alliance member and support CFM’s mission. The company has been a Silver business alliance member since August 2014 and supported many of our new regional events with product and sponsorship donations.

CFM’s 80th annual convention is no exception. In an effort to help raise funds for CFM, G3 Boats very generously donated a 14’ – 1436 LW Jon boats for CFM’s live auction. G3 Riveted Jons offer solid performance with lifetime value. They include the built-in durability of a one piece hull, high-strength one piece heat-tempered extruded ribs and rugged desert brown enamel finish.

These boats also offer the rugged reliability of .100 gauge marine-grade aluminum, high-strength one piece heat-tempered extruded ribs, textured non-skid deck, reinforced corner and transom braces, stamped-in keels and bow eyes with durable enamel finish in desert brown. Coming in Desert brown with a 600 pound capacity, it’s sure to get you anywhere in Missouri you want to go.

“At G3, we know in order to have a safe and productive outdoor experience, outdoorsmen and women have to have quality places to hunt and fish. We are proud to support CFM’s mission of protecting and promoting Missouri’s outdoors, so that Missouri outdoorspeople can enjoy our waters for years to come,” said Roger Bills.

Looking for something a little bigger than a Jon boat? Not a problem – From their Eagle Mod-V’s bass boats to their Deep V’s for some walleye chop to their Suncatcer Pontoons, G3 has a line of boats for every type of Missouri water and every type of Missouri outdoorsman.

If you’re interested in this boat, but can’t make CFM’s convention this boat and other auction items (Safari’s, Fishing Trips, Doolittle Trailer, Redneck Predator 360 Blind, etc) will be available for bidding starting Friday, March 11th at a pre-convention auction.

With so many good boat options, I haven’t made a decision on which will be parked in my garage. When I do, I’ll be sure to save a seat for any of you readers who are also thinking about hot July days and cold crappie water.
