This passion is a family affair. My wife Jane and I have hunted together since we first got together. We both have strong interest in the health of our wild outdoors. Jane is certified both as a Missouri Master Naturalist and a Missouri Master Gardener. We both volunteer for the East Central Missouri Prescribed Burn Association.

I am a lifelong MO resident, born and raised in St. Louis with family ties in agriculture for generations. Since 1980 my wife and I have owned a farm in Montgomery County with wildlife, outdoors and conservation management a high priority.
Making our home in the St. Louis metropolitan area, has provided many opportunities to embrace and support urban and rural conservation efforts. We have found Missouri citizens have much in common when it comes to appreciating the outdoors and conservation.
Since joining CFM I have been actively engaged in the following areas:
Life Member 2004
Received Presidents Award 2004
Served as 2nd Vice President 2006-2008
Served as 1st Vice President 2008-2010
Served as President 2010-2012
Served in many capacities and on various committees over three decades including Ways and Means, Executive, Chronic Wasting Disease, Awards and Nominating Committee
Founders Circle Bronze Level 2023
I am a biologist for a conservation non-profit organization called Land Learning Foundation, which does stream and wetland restoration and youth outdoor education.
I was a participant of the Conservation Leadership Corps from 2016-2018.
I have a Bachelor and Masters degree in biology, where I studied Illinois chorus frog population dynamics.
I am wrapping up a current term as an appointed board member of the Conservation Federation of Missouri and would love to serve another term. As a staff member of a small nonprofit, I have knowledge and experience to offer CFM as an organization by being a board member.
I see myself as being involved with CFM for the rest of my life!
I grew up outdoors, have experience with aquatic natural resources, am passionate about conservation, love frogs, and am excited to continue serving CFM!
I have experience working with national environmental organizations to support conservation campaigns in Missouri. I think that state-based organizations like CFM are more effective when working in tandem with a national umbrella group. So many conservation issues in Missouri are heavily influenced by federal agencies. I have worked with the US Forest (on management of the Eleven Point River and on protecting the Bell Mountain Wilderness Area), with the Army Corps of Engineers (on protecting the New Madrid Floodway), and with the Environmental Protection Agency on water quality in the Missouri River.
I’ve canoed on the Eleven Point River, Current, Jacks Fork, Huzzah, Courtois, Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, and kayak in Mingo Swamp. I have backpacked on the Ozark Trail, and done trail maintenance in the Pioneer Forest. I am familiar with public lands in our state, and would bring that knowledge to our work with the NWF.
I have enjoyed the two years I have been on the CFM board. I have spent most of my career working on environmental/conservation issues – primarily in the Missouri Department of Natural Resources where I worked for 22 years. The last 7 years of my tenure there, I served as the director of the department’s Division of Environmental Quality, where I worked with a great team to protect air quality, water quality, & drinking water, and ensure proper management of waste, oversee reclamation of mined lands, and promote soil conservation. More recently, in my work to finish an MA in journalism (emphasis: photojournalism) my focus was on biodiversity and conservation. I love hiking, canoeing, gardening, and conservation photography.
My Ecology RAC committee experience and my consulting background in environmental remediation including mining, petroleum, heavy metals, and groundwater give me a unique perspective. I have enjoyed being on the board the last couple years and would like to continue to volunteer and learn as a junior board member.
My career background is in the area of farm, recreational and commercial real estate financing, particularly planning with clients to attain the goal of owning their own piece of land. I have developed a significant network with clients, real estate professionals and fellow conservationists in Northern Missouri and Southern Iowa, and beyond. I have extensive experience in farm/habitat restoration and improvement on personal farms, working with the Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service S office biologists and foresters and the programs they provide. My presence on the CFM board would also bring attention to new hunter recruitment, improved access to quality hunting lands for Missouri Residents and improving the age structure within Missouri’s deer herd.
My wife Heather and I have been married for 6 years and have two children, Harper and Walker. We live on our farm in western Randolph County.
I would appreciate your consideration for the CFM Board of Directors.
During my eighteen years of service as a local government leader in Missouri I’ve had the opportunity to engage with agencies and advocates at all levels of government on issues important to rural communities. I have extensive experience in infrastructure and economic development, as well as budgeting and governance. I have served on numerous boards and commissions and partnered with non-profit organizations as well as public and private sector interests to develop and advance public policy initiatives. My experience in these capacities includes policy analysis and lawmaking, lobbying State and Federal officials, extensive public speaking and media engagement, organizational leadership, risk management, and strategic planning. I am an avid outdoorsman who cares deeply about the protection and sound scientific management of Missouri’s natural resources. It would be the fulfillment of a personal goal to bring my experience and skill set to the service of the Conservation Federation of Missouri.

I am a fourth-generation farmer in southern Boone County with a focus on hay production. I’m married with two wonderful children ages 8 and 15. I currently sit on the board of the Mid MO Prescribed Burn Association as the Vice President and am an active member of the MID Mo Uplanders chapter of Quail Forever. In addition to my passion for farming, I am an
avid outdoorsman and conservationist. I believe that there is and should continue to be a close cooperation between the farming and conservation communities in order to increase yields and
more importantly, improve habitat. I care a great deal about sharing the benefits that come from
hunting and fishing, especially when it comes to young and new hunters.
If elected to be on the board of CFM, I believe the knowledge that I have gained from
both the farming and conservation worlds, coupled with the work that I have done in the
prescribed fire space would only strengthen the push that CFM makes to advance hunting,
fishing and habitat initiatives.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope to be part of the wonderful work the
Conservation Federation of Missouri does in the near future.
