PRESS RELEASE: Seminar and Activity Schedule Released for CFM’s Explore the Outdoors: St. Louis

St. Louis, Mo | September 29, 2015 – The Conservation Federation of Missouri (CFM) announced the seminar schedule for its upcoming regional event. Explore the Outdoors: St. Louis is October 24 and will kick off at Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center in Kirkwood. This portion of the event is completely free and open to the public.

The event begins at 11 a.m. with educational seminars and activities. Seminars will run throughout the day covering various topics specific to outdoor opportunities in the St. Louis area. Topics include outdoor photography, hiking, birding, hunting, fishing and more. We have turkey legend Ray Eye conducting one of his famous seminars. Bring the whole family to learn how to take advantage of the outdoor activities the St. Louis area has to offer.

11:00 a.m. – Opening & Welcome (CFM)
11:30 a.m. – Raptors & Birds of Prey (World Bird Sanctuary) – Live Demonstration
12:30 p.m. – Outdoor Photography (Noppadol Paothong)
1:30 p.m. – Keeping Up with the Outdoors (Ray Eye)
2:30 p.m. – Katy Trail: Celebrating the 25th Year (Missouri State Parks)
3:15 p.m. – Water Matters (Nine Network) & Get Involved with Missouri Stream Teams (Missouri Stream Teams)

9:00 a.m. – Hiking St. Louis (Robert Rubright) – Nature Walk
9:00 a.m. – Birding 101 (Mitch Leachman) – Outdoor Excursion
1:00 p.m. – Fly Fishing Missouri & St. Louis (Mark Van Patten) – Fly Casting Demo
1:30 p.m. – Importance of Pollinators & Native Plants (Pure Air Natives)
2:00 p.m. – Hunting & Fishing in the St. Louis Region (MDC)
3:00 p.m. – Canoeing & Kayaking in the St. Louis Region (Alpine Shop)
11-4 p.m. – Information Tables and Book Signings by Area Authors

An evening banquet at The Lodge Des Peres follows the seminars. The banquet includes dinner, silent and live auctions, speakers and live music. The highlight will be a panel discussion featuring conservation professionals from around the country. Panelists are Dr. Peter Raven from the Missouri Botanical Garden, Andy Buchsbaum from the National Wildlife Federation and Brandon Butler of the Conservation Federation of Missouri. They will discuss conservation topics relevant today from a world, national and state view.

“Explore the Outdoors: St. Louis is an opportunity for families and individuals to find out about outdoor opportunities right in their own backyards. It’s also a chance to connect with a diverse group of individuals who all have a common interest of enjoying the outdoors,” said Rehan Nana, Deputy Director of CFM.
