The staff at the Great River and Clarence Cannon National Wildlife Refuges are busy preparing for the first ever deer hunt for persons with permanent mobility and/or visual impairment(s).  The hunt will take place October 9 and 10, 2010 at the Clarence Cannon NWR located in Pike County, Missouri approximately one mile east of Annada along State Highway 79 north of the St.Louis area.

Qualified mobility and visually impaired applicants throughout the United States are encouraged to apply for the hunt.  Ten successful applicants will be selected by a random drawing and will be allowed to harvest two deer under an “Earn-a-Buck” system which requires the hunter to harvest an antlerless deer prior to harvesting an antlered deer.

Clarence Cannon NWR totals 3,751 acres of floodplain wetlands and forest managed for migratory birds.  Resident deer, turkey, bobwhite quail, otters and other wildlife are abundant on the refuge.

For more information about the hunt and/or to receive an application, please check out our website at http://www.fws.gov/midwest/GreatRiver/.  If you wish to call or write for an application, please contact Candy Chambers at 573-847-2333; send a letter to USFWS, P.O.
