What: Conservation Day at the Capitol

Where: Missouri State Capitol

Date: April 2, 2015

Time: 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CFM is gearing up for Conservation Day at the Capitol. More than 25 affiliate organizations are hosting booths filled with information and materials about their organization. The booths will be set up from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., so join us anytime throughout the day to learn more about these dedicated organizations.

The event is an educational and informative day where students, citizens and legislators can learn more about the organizations in Missouri who support and advocate for conservation around the state. Each organization brings their own expertise to the event and is looking forward to sharing their knowledge with Missourians. Take a look at some of the organizations that are joining us April 2:

Missouri Bird Conservation Initiative (MoBCI)

“I am excited about this special event because it gives me an opportunity to meet my legislative representatives and let them know how important our fish and wildlife are my organization and to other Missouri citizens. I am proud to be representing the folks that love birds and other wildlife and want to make sure that they are around for our kids to enjoy,” said Gene Gardner, chair of the Missouri Bird Conservation Initiative.

Katy Land Trust

“People only conserve what they think has value and one of the goals of the Katy Land Trust is to educate people about the value of rural Missouri and our countryside,” said Daniel Burkhardt, founder of the Katy Land Trust.

Missouri River Bird Observatory

“We are pleased to have another venue for supporting conservation of Missouri’s resources. There seems to be a tone in the capital which puts those in support of conservation on the defensive. We would like to put an immediate to stop this and see more movement towards expanding conservation programs that benefit our natural resources and those that enjoy and depend on them,” said Ethan Duke, Assistant Director of the Missouri River Bird Observatory.

Ducks Unlimited (DU)

“Ducks Unlimited looks forward to participating in Conservation Day at the Capitol. This is a great opportunity for citizens to meet with and speak to their legislators. It is also a great opportunity for conservation organizations to educate the public about their specific missions,” said Mark Flaspohler, Manager of Conservation Programs for Ducks Unlimited.

Missouri Smallmouth Alliance

“I’m enthralled by moving water. I can’t help but slow down and take a peek every time I cross even the smallest creek. I wholeheartedly support and applaud all the citizen conservationists who work to conserve and improve our waterways and oppose those who choose to exploit them for short-term personal gain,” said Matt Wier, President of the Missouri Smallmouth Association.

Missouri Parks Association

“The Missouri Parks Association is excited to participate in the Conservation Day at the state capital. We are always seeking ways to educate public officials and the general public about the value of state parks. Doing so with other like minded organization makes a statement that conservation and parks continue to matter in Missouri,” said Deb Schnack, the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Missouri Parks Association.

Two radio shows will be broadcasting live from the Capitol. The Morning Shag with Shags and Trevor (KCMQ 96.7) will broadcast from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. and  The Outdoor Guys Radio Show (ESPN 1410) from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Students from numerous colleges and universities across the state are attending to support conservation. To register as a student and sign up for one of the organized buses for the event, visit the Missouri Collegiate Conservation Alliance page here
